A Complete List Of The Best Beard Forums And Resources Online!

A Complete List Of The Best Beard Forums And Resources Online

We live in a golden age of information. If you want to build a treehouse, cook a rack of lamb, or remember the name of that cartoon you loved in middle school that only ran one season, the internet has you covered. As a beardsman, you can access everything from academic writing to influencer videos. But what about your open-sourced options? What are the best ways to connect with your hirsute peers online?

There are a plethora of beard-centric forums and open-source resources online. Some were built from the ground up as meeting places for scruffy-faced guys. Others are forums within larger general-interest platforms. Some are moderated, while others are a virtual wild west.

So without further ado – and in no particular order – here are eight of the finest online beard forums and resources that every facial hair connoisseur should check out.

1. r/beards

Any discussion of online forums must begin with the Goliath of open-source content – Reddit. Of all the facial hair spaces on the social news aggregator, r/beards is the one to frequent. Created in 2008, it boasts nearly 400 thousand members, the most of any beard-focused subreddit.

Pros Cons
●   R/beards has a huge user base.

●   New posts daily, including lots of photos and dialogue.

●   It’s strongly moderated, so the trolls and gross content are held at bay.
●   It’s Reddit, so you have to do some searching for your preferred info.

●   It’s strongly moderated, so you need to be up on the (prominently posted) rules before contributing.

2. Beard Profile Forum

This is not the most prominent forum on this list, but what it lacks in flash, it makes up for with a robust and informed user pool. Beard Profile was founded in 2015 and is still managed by Cemmos, a facial hair enthusiast in his mid-thirties.

Pros Cons
●   Useful categories, from general beard queries, to grooming products, to Minoxidil use.

●   Broader discussion and beard-centric fashion and lifestyle.

●   Generally respectful discussions.
●   There are posted rules, but no moderation.

●   Not the most active site. There are a fair number of discussions with no responses.

3. BtheBarber’s YouTube Channel

For beardsmen looking for informed, entertaining information geared toward black hair, B is your man. Based in Los Angeles, this long-bearded YouTube sensation gives regular tutorials on styling, grooming, and treating facial hair. What’s especially awesome about B’s videos is that he focuses on his own beard as a model to explore general tips and practices.

Pros Cons
●   BtheBarber is an awesome, engaging YouTube presence.

●   He posts weekly.

●   He posts videos of varying lengths on a variety of topics.

●   Because BtheBarber works with his own facial hair, his tips may not always be applicable to your beard.

4. Beard Board

Started in 2001 by Jeff Falberg, Beard Board is the oldest resource on this list. It is also close to perfection in the facial hair forum realm. To start, it has a strong moderation and advising group that’s focused on creating a respectful, fun, informative clearinghouse for beard info. The Forum has nearly 40 thousand members who’ve collectively posted over 1 million items in 50 thousand forums.

These forums are broken down by age, so younger beardsmen can get advice from more experienced users. They are further broken out by beard lengths and styles, so every shape and level of fullness has a place to trade wisdom and experiences.

This forum is so well-maintained, it inspired a loving op-ed in The Atlantic in 2019, which called it a place where “cruelty is forbidden; generosity is encouraged.”

Pros Cons
●   A huge well of information.

●   More regular posting than even Reddit.

●   Fantastic organization of topics.

●   A close and supportive bearded community.
  None. Not a one.

5. Facebook’s Best Beard Groups

Facebook’s Best Beard Groups

Facebook is the OG social media Goliath that has never gone down. Part of the reason for its resilience is that it relies on user interaction, which it fosters with a user-friendly group interface.

It’s unsurprising, then, that Facebook has some banging beard groups. In particular, we love:

  • Men With Beards – a large, jokey community of bearded men, sharing insights and goofy memes about facial hair.
  • Minox Beard Spot – Ostensibly a forum for those using minoxidil to fill out their facial thickets, this has morphed into a supportive group of young, aspirational beardsmen.
  • Live Bearded Brotherhood – Two words: relentlessly positive. This group, associated with a grooming product brand of the same name, has strict rules to foster a respectful atmosphere. Also, they require proof of beard before you join!

In general, here are the pros and cons of Facebook beard groups:

Pros Cons
●   Mostly quite welcoming and supportive, with good moderation (all required by the site).

●   Facebook is known for its intuitive, clean interface with lots of room for photos, videos, and discussion.

●   There is seemingly a group for every sub-stratum of beardsman.
●   Most of these are private groups, so you need to have a Facebook profile to engage with them.

●   Quite a few are men-only, which might not jive with your values.

6. BeardBrand’s YouTube Channel

Beardbrand is one of the most prominent facial hair content-creators on YouTube. Associated with the Beard Company – a purveyor of soaps, styling products, oils, and grooming tools – this channel posts, at minimum, once a week. The content is slickly produced. It focuses on individuals transforming and honing their bearded profiles at the company’s barbershops. These mini-stories are informative and totally engrossing.

Pros Cons
●   Beardbrand has created hundreds of videos for this channel.

●   A wide variety of bearded stars, covering a range of ethnicities, ages, and styles.
The videos are a bit longer lately, averaging around 20 minutes each.

7. Badger & Blade’s User Forum

Badger & Blade is a site dedicated to reviewing and retailing men’s grooming products with a particular focus on the beard. Its centerpiece is a voluminous forum with nearly 100 thousand users and a handful of moderators.

Discussions are divided into an impressively specific range of subcategories: Shaving Soaps, Safety Razors, Aftershaves. There are multiple subsections on Straight razors. Don’t worry, though: there’s a general grooming category also.

Pros Cons
●   An incredibly robust discussion forum with lots of different voices.

●   Extremely clean, stylish interface.

●   Fun tertiary forums for common beardsman passions like fine tea, liquor, tobacco, photography, and clothing.
●   This is a retail company, so every page has a product sales component.

●   This is a dense site limited almost entirely to text discussion.
